Apple Certified Help Desk Specialist (ACHDS) Certification Launched
Not to be outdone by Microsoft's new desktop certification (MCDST), Apple has released a similar certification. Here is how Apple describes this one exam certification: "This NEW certification is ideal for help desk personnel, service technicians, technical coordinators, and others who support Mac OS X customers over the phone or who perform Mac OS X troubleshooting and support in schools and businesses. The ACHDS certification does not include support of the Mac OS X Server platform."
Apple suggests these job roles for those pursuing this certification:
- Help desk specialists
- Service technicians
- Technical coordinators
- Power users
- Teachers and technology specialists
The one required exam is the Mac OS X Help Desk Essentials v10.3 Exam (9L0-400). This exam, which Apple explicitly warns is not intended for high-end system administrators or engineers, costs $150 USD and may be taken from Prometric. Keep in mind that you first must have an Apple Tech ID number prior to registering with Prometric for this exam.
Exam 9L0-400 is also the first of two required exams to achieve the ACTC (Apple Certified Technical Coordinator) certification.
